Nemme penge – Book cover and book design, Lemon Press

Nemme penge – “Easy Money” – is the dramatic and true story of two brothers from Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest town, who for years run a multi-million operation in hashish, until they are finally caught and imprisoned. Written by the two brothers in collaboration with one of the police officers who eventually tracked them down. Published by Lemon Press.

Making the cover was complicated by the fact that the brothers – the story’s main characters – refused to be photographed in any way or form. We couldn’t even meet them. Simultaneously, there was a long-standing agreement that the police officer had to be depicted on the cover in a recognisable way.

Our solution to these conflicting demands was to feature what could be the brothers in silhouette (based solely on the editor’s verbal description), and construct a stark black and white drawing of the police officer, standing between them. The result is a somewhat menacing, grimy, mass-market look for a somewhat grimy, mass-market book.
