Sporene efter Inés – Book cover, Gyldendal

Jakob Silas Lund’s novel Sporene efter Inés (Traces of Inés) is a story about Daniel who sets out to trace the footsteps of his sister Inés, who was kidnapped and killed in the Central African Republic where she did humanitarian work. He tries to reconstruct who his sister was and what happened to her, discovering there are large parts of her life and disappearance he didn’t know about.

The face on the cover, of somebody who could be Inés, is made with a pattern of dots (in concentric circles from the middle of the book’s spine), a pointillistic ploy that makes the image hard to read close up, while easily decodable from a distance. Inés is there, though not quite.
